Human Resources Management and Human Treasures Leadership

1) Why do you use the word treasures instead of resources?

A commonly accepted definition for Human Resource Management is: Human Resource Management is that area of organisation life that focuses on the effective management and utilization of people. It indeed refers to utilizing people, to seeing people as a resource, as a means to an end. In the last decade it has become apparent that this approach does not suffice in the knowledge paradigm, where people and their capability to learn collectively make the difference in the market place. To make this clear, the word 'resources' was sometimes replaced by 'talent' or 'capital'.

However, this does not resonate with how we value people: as treasures. That's why we expect an evolution from Human Resource/Talent/Capital Management to Human Treasures Leadership.

But we find that these words insufficiently describe the true value for an organisation. That's why we use the word treasures. When stimulating and connecting the positive and the valuable and facing what needs to improve and what is not helpful, the reward is discovery of the treasure - in yourself as a person - ánd the people as treasures in the organisation. When you may choose. Do you want to be utilised or cherished? That's why we expect an evolution from

Human Resource Management, Human Talent Management and Human Capital Management to 'Human Treasures Leadership and Management.

We consider it as part of our mission to contribute to this paradigm shift.

2) What is the most important role of an HR professional?

We believe that the most important role of the HR professional is to support and guide managers and leaders to create an inspiring and fulfilling working climate where people are able and committed to manifest their full potential i.e. their treasure for their work and their development.
